Where to eat and have tapas in Vigo, near the Vigo Maritime Station, before visiting the Cíes Islands

Dedicated to all of you who like good food, I will show you some of the places listed as «mandatory stops» for eating and tapas near the Vigo Maritime Station.

Some of them belong to the Vigo Gastrómico association, it is a group of restaurants whose chefs use local gastronomic resources to innovate traditional dishes, offering diners a unique experience.

Restaurants near Calle del Principe, shopping area

We will start with «El Eligio» which was founded in 1920 by Eligio González, it is one of the oldest taverns in Vigo and an emblematic place in the city.

Throughout its history, prestigious and well-known writers, painters and intellectuals from both the city and Galicia have passed through the premises, making El Eligio a benchmark venue both culturally and gastronomically, its cuttlefish in ink and its baby squid are famous beyond its doors.

After a few years of inactivity, it has been reopened by the well-known hotelier from Vigo, Leopoldo Celard Correa, «Poldo» for his friends, who has maintained the essence and tradition of the place, while increasing the gastronomic offer, has a wide letter in which Galician products of first quality prevail.

The Eligio is located in the center of Vigo, on Travesía de la Aurora n° 4, a few meters from the Porta do Sol and the most visited and touristic places in the city.

«Tapería Vinoteca María Manuela» Another of the favorites to enjoy tapas and different, original and fresh dishes with all the traditional flavor, paired with a complete selection of wines. Located in the Plaza de Compostela 31, in the same Alameda de Vigo.

«La Casineta«, a restaurant with the best selection of products from the entire Iberian Peninsula, where Extremaduran sausages stand out, such as ham, cecina, loin and cheese, which are completed with other products such as salmon, cod, anchovies from Santoña. House specialty, roast suckling pig and lamb, impressive. Located on Rúa Victoria nº4, next to the Alameda.

A place full of memories and winks with a contemporary approach, «La Trastienda del Cuatro«, a cozy and creative space, full of flavors and good conversations.

They constantly organize events, tastings, pairings and also have group menus for celebrations.

It´s kitchen can be described as contemporary and market, with a look at traditional preparations without neglecting the most current cooking techniques and approaches, Galicia is our environment, and we use the best raw materials and also review their flavours, recreating and reinventing them in surprising combinations.

Located in the heart of the city, in the Plaza de Compostela, next to the Hotel Nagari in Alameda.

«Pygmalion Tabern» It has extensive experience in traditional Galician cuisine. Our history goes back to one of the most iconic restaurants in Vigo, «El Mosquito».

Now “Carmiña” passes the generational handover to his grandson Pedro Cantero, a young entrepreneur with experience in charge of several restaurants, where he puts the inherited experience into practice at the Pigmalión Tabern.

Pigmalión Tabern delights its customers with a traditional menu, whose main objective is to offer fresh and top quality products where you can feel nostalgic for those acclaimed times of the city. Located between Alameda and Montero Ríos street.
